WFP collaborates with the GoE through the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR) on 'Building Resilient Food Security Systems to Benefit the Southern Egypt Region'. Through a holistic approach that supported farmers' livelihoods, built their resilience and, on communal level, boosting the village's overall production capacity.
Key activities of this project included consolidating fragmented lands, introducing and using low-cost water-saving irrigation, reducing losses in cases of foreseen extreme weather events, introducing improved varieties of common crops and non-traditional crops, and diversification of livelihoods through animal revolving loans. Also, introducing solar energy in irrigation and agro-processing in some villages.
WFP collaborates with the Government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR), to strengthen the smallholder farmers’ and Bedouin communities’ capacity to adapt to climatic changes and improve agricultural productivity especially in the poorest villages in the governorates of Aswan, Luxor, Sohag, Qena and Assiut.
